Introduction

Hilltop Retreat is a quiet off-grid cabin set into rolling hills — designed to live lightly on the land while staying fully powered year-round. The owners wanted energy independence without a visible industrial footprint or noisy generators.

We delivered an 8.2 kW rooftop array paired with high-capacity battery storage, sized for winter autonomy and peak summer loads. Every component was chosen for durability, quiet operation, and a clean visual profile that respects the architecture.

Beyond day-one performance, the system was engineered for long-term reliability — from modular racking that protects the roof membrane to monitoring that flags issues before they become outages. The result is a retreat that runs itself, season after season.

Challenge

Deliver full off-grid autonomy without scarring the landscape

The site had no utility connection and limited access for heavy equipment. Key challenges included:

  • Steep terrain and a narrow access road restricted equipment delivery
  • Winter cloud cover required oversized storage for multi-day autonomy
  • Strict aesthetic guidelines — no ground mounts or visible conduit runs

Our solution

Engineered for autonomy, designed to disappear

To address these challenges, we implemented:

  • Flush-mounted 8.2 kW array aligned to the roof pitch for a seamless silhouette
  • 20 kWh lithium battery bank with intelligent load prioritization
  • Concealed conduit routing and remote monitoring for hands-off ownership

Before

  • No grid access — generators for every power need
  • Fuel deliveries and noise disrupting the retreat experience
  • Unreliable winter power during storms and cloud cover
  • High ongoing fuel and maintenance costs

After

  • 100% solar + battery autonomy with silent operation
  • Zero fuel deliveries and a quieter site experience
  • Multi-day winter reserve sized for extended cloud cover
  • Predictable ownership with remote system monitoring

Technologies used

Driving performance with industry-leading solar equipment

  • High-efficiency monocrystalline panels with low-profile flush racking
  • Hybrid inverter with seamless battery integration and load shedding
  • Real-time monitoring platform with mobile alerts and performance history
